Welcome

Welcome to the website of the Iberian Peninsula Society Chapter of the Archaeological Institute of America (www.archaeological.org).   IPS-AIA currently has its headquarters based in the Museu Nacional de Arqueologia in Lisbon, Portugal but is dedicated to reaching archaeologists, researchers and the general public throughout Iberia.  With many of our members belonging to universities and institutions outside of Iberia, in the U.S. and the United Kingdom, our chapter is diverse in its membership.  Our chapter’s membership ranges in ages 3-76, we hope to embrace the general public as well as to provide lectures and networking for young and professional archaeologists.

The mission for all of the chapters of the AIA is as follows: “The Archaeological Institute of America promotes a vivid and informed public interest in the cultures and civilizations of the past, supports archaeological research, fosters the sound professional practice of archaeology, advocates the preservation of the world's archaeological heritage, and represents the discipline in the wider world.”

Please browse our informative website and check back for updates.  If you wish, you can add your name to our list server and receive our periodic newsletter or suggest archaeologically informative websites to be linked to our site.  The IPS-AIA site aims to be informative about Iberian archaeology, research and archaeological activities as well as connecting the Iberian chapter to the activities of our sibling societies.
